Day 1: We meet at Peninsula State Park campground on Friday night, discuss the weekend's itinerary, and set up camp before turning in for the night.

Day 2: We will start the day by greeting the sun with yoga and meditation on the beach. Following breakfast, we will spend the day working on the basics of sea kayaking on the waters of Lake Michigan. We'll cover paddling techniques, safety and rescues, and spend some time exploring the shores by kayak. We'll return to our camp for our evening session of Yoga and meditation, followed with a healthy dinner around the campfire.

Day 3: Again, we will begin the day with a yoga session overlooking the water and beach. We spend the morning on Green Bay, touring several nearby islands, then break camp and pack up for an early afternoon departure, refreshed by our weekend getaway!

In order to provide the finest and most complete wilderness experience, we strongly encourage and expect participation in all camp chores, including cooking, washing dishes, setting up and breaking down camp. We will provide all meals on the trail, tents, all camping and cooking equipment, and all kayak-related equipment. It is essential that you know how to swim to participate in this trip. You will be sharing a tent with fellow participants each night.

Q: What makes this trip so special?
A: The Door County peninsula of Wisconsin is a scenic collection of small villages, sandy beaches, towering bluffs and quiet coves. For the sea kayaker it offers wonderful opportunities to explore a very unique part of the Midwest. Because Door County lies on a Peninsula, we are able to paddle on both the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula, as well as the Green Bay side. Each side offers its own personality and character adding up to a wonderful experience for all skill levels.

Q: How do I get there?
A: Door County lies about 5-6 hours north of Chicago near Green Bay, Wisconsin. For various reasons, most people will choose to meet us in Door County. Some people are in the area on vacation while others may be leaving straight from work on Friday. When you register for the trip we will provide you with a map and directions to our meeting location in Door County. Carpooling may be an option depending on who else is registering for the trip and where they are coming from.

Q: What's the weather like?
A: The weather in Door County can be very similar to weather in other parts of the Midwest. During the summer highs can be in the eighties with lows in the fifties.

Q: What are the accommodations like?
A: While on our weekend trip we will be camping in a local campground (usually Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek). We use two-person tents and eat delicious morning and evening meals right in our campsites. There are restrooms with running water and showers at all the campgrounds that we use.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Once you register you will receive an equipment list that will help guide you in your packing. In addition to your personal accessories, you will need to have an assortment of insulating clothes, a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad. Feel free to contact our office for any questions regarding gear and/or clothing, as we want to make sure that you are comfortable during the trip.

Q: Can I drink the water?
A: There are plenty of pumps and faucets on our trip to fill up your water bottle. All of the water is potable and we will have a variety of drink mixes to help keep you hydrated and happy.

Q: What's the food like?
A: We plan for delicious food on the Door County trip - and plenty of it. Dinner on Saturday will be anything from Spaghetti to Fajitas with complementing appetizers and desserts (Door County is famous for its pies!)

Q: What time is it in Door County?
A: Door County is in Central Standard Time.

Q: How can people reach me in an emergency? Can I call home?
A: There are many phones at the campgrounds as well as at many of our various launching sites. We will be asking you to provide us with an emergency contact whom we can contact on your behalf if necessary.

Q: How much time do we spend kayaking etc. each day? How many miles do we travel? Do I have free time?
A: We will be kayaking up to 10 miles each day. On Saturday we will begin the day with an introduction and/or review to basic sea kayaking making this trip ideal for those without much experience. We are generally off the water by mid afternoon giving you plenty of time to shower, and relax in the evening. On Sunday we will aim to finish by 3 PM so you can get home at a decent hour.

Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
A: We use high quality, durable equipment for all of our kayaking and camping purposes. Our tents are either Eureka or Kelty lightweight tents and we have a variety of Polyethylene sea kayaks.

Q: How many people are on this trip? How many guides? Who are the guides/what are their qualifications?
A: The minimum number of people needed to make this trip go is 5. Generally our groups are fairly small (between 5-10 people), and we maintain a ratio of one guide for every five participants. Our guides are all experienced in all aspects of wilderness travel and have years of experience leading groups. They all hold certifications in Wilderness First Aid.

Q: Can I plug in my hair dryer? What about my electric razor?
A: Yes, the campground bathrooms have electric outlets, although sometimes they are very popular and you may have to wait.
