The Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) and Certification
Exam (ICE) is a six-day training and assessment to certify candidates
who have the ambitions to instruct and guide sea kayak programs worldwide. Candidates can be assessed for various levels of certification. Candidates interested should contact our office to see if they qualify for this extensive training and certification program.

The
3-Star Assessment, led by our BCU Coach-3 certified instructors is for intermediate kayakers seeking certification
with the British Canoe Union (BCU), one of the top certification
organizations in kayaking.
Students will be tested on their kayaking skills and awarded
the BCU 3-Star upon successful assessment. For details on
what kayaking skills will be tested, see the BCU
syllabus.

This 2-day (16 hour) course is an introduction to wilderness
medicine. Topics include: patient assessment system, body
systems, environmental injuries/conditions, anaphylaxis, lifting/moving/extrication,
and patient carries, backcountry medicine, and CPR. This is
an excellent course for all outdoor recreationalists. |

Advanced First Aid |

This 4-day (36 hour) course is a more in-depth course than the WFA, covers more
topics, and includes simulations. This is a good choice for assistant trip leaders
or guides who will be assisting Wilderness First Responder or WEMT-trained staff
or for those who will be doing 2-4 day trips where they may have to care for a
patient for hours. |

First Responder Bridge Course |

|
This
course is for people who are certified as a WMA WAFA. The
Bridge course is four days (36 hours) long and will upgrade
your WMA WAFA to a Wilderness First Responder. This course
must be taken within three years of WAFA certification. |

Wilderness
First Responder Recertification Course
This
course is for people who are certified as a WMA WFR. The
WFR recert course is two days (16 hours) long and will recertify
your WMA Wilderness First Responder for 3 years. Only students with WFR certification through Wilderness Medical Associates are eligible to take this course.
