Door County Kayak and Camping Adventure
3 Days, 2 Nights
Peninsula State Park, WI
Relish in the beauty of Door County’s scenic coves, lighthouses and sandy beaches while you learn or enhance your sea kayaking skills on the clear, calm waters of Green Bay. You’ll spend some time learning or reviewing the basics of sea kayaking - including technique and open water rescues - then enjoy the weekend on the water surrounded by beauty. With a base camp on the Door County peninsula we’ll paddle one day on the bay side, and head out on the Lake Michigan side the next. This is a fabulous weekend for beginners and/or experienced paddlers.
Day 1: Arrive at Peninsula State Park in Door County where guides are waiting to greet you with a campfire and snacks. Tonight we get to know each other and talk about the schedule for the next two days.
Day 2: After a hearty breakfast we hit the water for an introductory lesson and then some leisurely paddling. We often paddle the first day on the typically calmer Green Bay side of the peninsula or on an inland lake, although many groups choose to paddle on the lake if conditions are favorable. Tonight we dig into a hot camp dinner (chicken fajitas are a guide and participant favorite) and cherry pie, a Door County specialty.
Day 3: Now that we have some practice under our belts we head out on the lake after another hearty breakfast. We like to paddle to Horseshoe Island for a hike and some lunch before we jump back into our boats for couple more hours of paddling. We land our boats at about 2 PM, pack up and say our goodbyes by about 3 PM.
