ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive on Stromboli by early afternoon and meet your guides. Enjoy a stroll through the lovely town center or a visit to the black sand beaches. In the early evening hours, hike along Sciara del Fuoco and admire Stromboli’s stunning volcanic eruptions. The lightshow doesn’t stop there. Enjoy dinner with a perfect vantage point for observing the eruptions. D Day 2: After ferrying to the island of Vulcano, get outfitted for your kayaking journey, and explore the beautiful coastline. If you’re ready for more adventure, set out on one of Vulcano’s amazing day hikes before dinner. B, D Day 3: Today you will nearly complete a kayak circumnavigation of Vulcano. This beautiful island is a joy to explore from the water. You’ll stop at beaches along the way to stretch your legs, have lunch in the charming hamlet of Gelso, and luxuriate in Tyrrhenian Sea. B, D Day 4: Today you enjoy beaches on three different Aeolian Islands on a paddle from Vulcano to Lipari to Salina. Set off from Vulcano and explore awesome sea stacks and paddle-through archways enroute to our first beach stop on Lipari. Continue north along Lipari’s west coast through sea caves and rock gardens before making the final crossing to Salina. An amazing full day on the water. B, D Day 5: Explore the wonderful island of Salina by kayak and foot. Circumnavigate the island by kayak over the course of one or two days (weather dependent), and savor your evenings in the marvelous town of Malfa. B, D Day 6: Complete the circumnavigation of Salina and/or embark on stunning hikes. Challenge yourself by scaling Salina’s highest point, Monte Fassa delle Felci (950m), or take it easier by walking the postcard-perfect coastline of Pollara (set of the film Il Postino). B Day 7: Return to Vulcano by kayak and enjoy the final evening together in these awe-inspiring volcanic islands. Soak up the sunset during our celebratory dinner to conclude a week of intrepid adventure. B, D Day 8: We make our way to the ferry terminal on the northeast tip of Vulcano. From there, we will say goodbyes and depart for connections on the mainland. B *This is our intended itinerary. As with any adventure, factors outside our control may alter the itinerary.
Our Belize kayak and camping trip was not what anyone expected due to unseasonably windy, rainy and cool weather. But we had a grand adventure nonetheless! How many times in your life do you get a chance to help a Belizean captain right and bail his swamped boat? Learn the ebb and flow of life on a tiny uninhabited Caribbean island? See a tiger ray leaping from the water trying to shake off the eel attached to its middle? Backpedal furiously to avoid a collision with a huge loggerhead turtle swimming your way as you snorkel? Eat comforting conch stew at a picnic table, the taste heightened by the sweetness of plantains and sharpness of the ubiquitous Marie Sharp's hot sauce? We experienced all that and much more with our small group this February. Our guide and fearless leader CP was perpetually cheerful and accommodating even as we confronted multiple days of high seas after landing on Moho Caye. He gave us opportunities to kayak whenever conditions permitted but also kept us safe. The local support team of Ian and his son Shane were steady and resourceful even under adverse circumstances. In addition to providing information, guidance and motor transport when needed, they fed us well, including platters of fresh fruit and hot fry jacks cooked in a primitive outdoor kitchen. This was our fourth trip with Northwest Passage, and we are on the lookout for our next one. As always, the company and its excellent staff provided a personalized, unique and fun adventure trip. My son and I had a fabulous time. Crystal clear water for paddling and swimming. Great scenery. Clean, comfortable accommodations. Wonderful professional, competent, helpful, friendly and enthusiastic guides Chris and Sean. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but I think next time I'll try a different trip. By Chuck F on Sep 30, 2024
Our family of 5 had an amazing time exploring the Apostle Islands with our guides. Our kids had a blast and will never forget this trip. We felt safe and prepared for the adventure. And to top it all off the food was terrific! One of our family members requires a gluten free diet and they were able to accommodate that with no issues. Thank you, Chris and Ted and Northwest Passage, we could not have asked for a better family trip! By Sarah B on Sep 04, 2024
