This 3-hour sea kayaking course introduces paddlers to the most effective rescue and self-rescue techniques. Our nationally certified guides are well versed in latest, industry standard practices. Many folks find that they enjoy performing rescues just as much as they do paddling.

This 3-hour program will focus on the essential skills of the various rescues to smoothly get you back into the kayak in the event you exit. Guides will start with a 15 minute shoreline lesson covering the basics tools, strategies and safety items you should consider during any on water journey. Float plans, marine radios, kayak paddles, paddle floats, dry bags, cell phones, boat fit, sprayskirts, lifejackets, pumps, sponges, wet suits and more will be covered. Once your properly fit into the kayak with seat and foot peg adjustments. your guides will introduce strategies for a safe and dry beach launch. On the water the essential wet exit will be demonstrated with practice to follow. Techniques on reentry away from shore with the help from another kayaker are covered with feedback from your guides this skill will build you confidence. Self rescues can be a challenge for the novice. Your guides will help provide the proper direction on how to solve this challenge. Your head will be above water for most of the course allowing you to take in the beautiful views of the Baha'i temple and Chicago Shoreline. Build your kayak confidence with this essential course.
